Games bring people together, but communities keep them coming back. This opening keynote explores how gaming communities create belonging, inspire creativity, strengthen local culture, and help people of all ages find their place. From board game cafés and conventions to local associations and digital communities, we’ll discuss why the people around the games matter just as much as the games themselves.

What makes a board game café more than just a place to play? Brads spelcafé shares how physical meeting places can bring together newcomers, hobby veterans, and entire communities, and why they believe board games are one of the best tools for creating meaningful connections.

The Power of Neuromixed Dev Teams

14:15 –
15:00
Divergent Neurons Academy
Guests: Brian Bartram, Pierre Escaich, Susanne Sühl & Khaula Khurshid
Fostering the connection between neurodivergent and neurotypical team members. “Neuromixing” is combining different cognitive styles to unlock a team’s collective potential. Diversity is a superpower in creative industries, but simply gathering diverse people isn’t enough. Without active facilitation diverse teams can generate more friction than innovation and that friction can have severe negative impact on people’s lives and livelihood. “The click” – that cognitive chemistry where people genuinely understand and collaborate with each other – is something you build, not just luck. In this panel we’ll share examples where cognitive differences matched or collided and what elements at play contributed to these results. We’ll hear from team members, leads and managers, and professionals who study their interactions. Most importantly, you’ll come away with practical methods to foster more supportive, inspiring, and effective relationships between team members of all types to improve the experience and the collaboration of everyone involved.

Through personal stories and practical examples, this panel discusses how to build welcoming spaces where more people feel valued, contribute, and choose to stay.

Join convention organizers from across the gaming community as they share lessons learned, discuss common challenges, and explore how collaboration and knowledge sharing can strengthen volunteer-driven events. Whether you’re organizing your first convention or your fifteenth, this panel is about learning from each other and building the future of community events together.

Online Policing

How can we create safer and more accessible digital spaces, and make support easier to reach for people who spend their time there? As more of our everyday lives, communities, and social interactions move online, safety and accessibility need to follow. In this short talk, the Swedish Police will introduce their work with Online Policing: a visible digital presence focused on dialogue, accessibility, crime prevention, and supporting people who may experience threats, harassment, hate crime, grooming, or other forms of harm online.

Feedback loops in RPG tabletop games – Building D&D Player’s Atlas

17:05 –
17:15
D&D Player’s Atlas
Guests: Adrián Brito
Classic tabletop RPGs have been characterized as being perfect for those that love to mix fantasy worlds with stat sheets, rolling dice, and 300+ page rule books. Veteran players have seen their fair share of new players leave because of rule fatigue or big game anxiety. Yet, at their core, tabletop RPGS are not about stats but about co-creative activities that can strengthen relationships between loved ones and friends. How then can we design tools and artefacts that approach new players’ issues in ways that let them play fast while also learning autonomy? We are sharing what an interaction design approach has taught us.

Impact of communities – Breaking the isolation of young adults

17:15 –
18:00
BISGIS / Spelens Hus
Guests: Lari Pitkäkangas (Spelens Hus) Konstantinos Lekkas (DraconRDS) Enrique Vargas (BISGIS) & Elsa Varland (The Game Assembly)
How can games improve and support youth, and serve as a tool for greater inclusion? We will show some examples of how a community can address social issues within the broader society. Young people suffer from isolation today; this has been a growing problem since the pandemic. Our examples show how games can be an important factor in supporting and empowering youth, especially within a community of other gamers. Gaming is expanding into other sectors of society, such as social work, schools, and higher education.

Conference Closing & Guided Visit to Malmö Game Week

18:00 –
20:00
BISGIS / Spelens Hus
Wrap up the day with a guided introduction to Malmö Game Week. Together we’ll visit the exhibition floor and discover games created by young participants in the BISGIS project, showcasing the next generation of game creators. Continue networking while exploring the exhibition, meeting exhibitors, and experiencing Malmö Game Week.
