Malmö Game Week 2026
1. Introduction and Data Controller
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swedish Data Protection Act (Dataskyddslagen). Clarifies the legal bases for processing and explicitly outlines your visitor rights.
Malmö Game Week (MGW) is a collaborative project between Spelens hus (SH) and the City of Malmö (Malmö stad). Spelens hus, as the project owner, and Malmö stad, as the strategic partner, act as Joint Controllers for the ownership of any documentation and the processing of personal data described herein.
2. Processing of Visual and Audio Material
To document the event’s atmosphere and reach, personal data in the form of photos, videos, and audio recordings are collected throughout the weekend.
Purpose: Documentation of the event, real-time promotion, and future marketing of Malmö Game Week, Spelens hus, or the City of Malmö.
Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest (GDPR Art. 6.1.f). We have a legitimate interest in documenting and promoting cultural activities that provide social value to the community.
Identification: Photographers and film crews will wear clearly marked vests. If you do not wish to be identifiable in close-up shots, please inform the photographer or move out of the frame.
Live Streaming: Parts of the event are live-streamed on Twitch and YouTube. By entering these designated zones, you acknowledge that your presence may be broadcast in real-time.
3. Newsletter and Communication
If you choose to subscribe to our updates, we process your email address.
Purpose: To send news, event updates, and information related to MGW and Spelens hus activities.
Legal Basis: Consent (GDPR Art. 6.1.a).
Data Processor: We use info@malmogameweek.com for email distribution. Data transfers to the USA are protected under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
Retention: Your data is stored only as long as you remain a subscriber. You can withdraw consent at any time via the “unsubscribe” link.
4. Digital Community Platforms
When interacting with MGW via Discord, Facebook, or Instagram, or any other digital platform, the respective platform’s privacy policy applies. Spelens hus uses these platforms for community interaction and finding gaming groups.
5. Your rights under GDPR
Under EU and Swedish law, you have the following rights:
Access: The right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification: The right to correct inaccurate data.
Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): The right to request deletion of your data where it is no longer necessary for the purpose.
Objection: The right to object to processing based on legitimate interest (e.g., promotional photography). If it is for anything other than the above-stated purpose.
Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten – IMY).

In accordance with the Swedish Discrimination Act and our core values, Malmö Game Week is a safe and welcoming space for everyone. We actively ensure an environment that respects all seven grounds of discrimination, including disabilities (physical and neurodivergent), gender identity or expression, age, ethnicity, religion or other belief, and sexual orientation. We are committed to accessibility and ensuring that all visitors can participate in gaming culture on equal terms
